1979-80, 81-82 Billy Smith Pads

Billy Smith wore these pads during the 1979-80 and 1981-82 seasons, both culminating with Stanley Cup victories.  During the 1979-80 regular season, Smith played in 38 games, going 15-14-7 with a 2.95 GAA and 2 shutouts.  He was wearing these pads when he was credited with the first goalie goal in NHL history on November 28th, 1979.  Smith shined in the playoffs, going 15-4 with a 2.80 GAA, leading the Islanders to the first Stanley Cup in team history.  In 1981-82, Smith had a league-leading 32 wins to go with a 2.97 GAA and .900 save percentage during the regular season, leading the Islanders to the Prince of Wales Trophy and collecting the only Vezina Award of his career.  He followed that up, going 15-3 with a 2.52 GAA in the playoffs, leading the Islanders to their third of four straight Stanley Cups.  Billy Smith was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1993.
