Gilles Villemure was awarded this Vezina Trophy to commemorate his 1971 Vezina win alongside teammate Eddie Giacomin. The New York Rangers recognized Villemure and Giacomin on March 15, 1989 on Ed Giacomin night, the night the #1 was raised to the rafters at Madison Square Garden. This was the only Vezina Award ever given to Villemure.
