Turk Broda was awarded this trophy for leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to the 1948 Stanley Cup.  Broda played in all 60 games, going 32-15-13 with a 2.38 GAA and 5 shutouts.  In the playoffs, Broda impressed, going 8-1 with a 2.15 GAA and a shutout, leading the Leafs to a 4-0 series sweep over the Detroit Red Wings.   It would be the third of 5 Stanley Cups during Turk's career.  Broda also received the second and final Vezina of his career in 1948.  Turk Broda was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1967.
