1981-83 Billy Smith

New York Islanders jersey worn by Billy Smith during the playoffs of the 1981-82 season and throughout the 1982-83 regular season and playoffs.  Smith wore this jersey in two Stanley Cup Final series, both of them leading to the Islanders hoisting the Cup.  In 1981-82, Smith had a league-leading 32 wins to go with a 2.97 GAA and .900 save percentage during the regular season, leading the Islanders to the Prince of Wales Trophy.  He followed that up, going 15-3 with a 2.52 GAA in the playoffs.  Smith was awarded the only Vezina Trophy of his career for his efforts at the end of the 1981-82 season.  During the 1982-83 season, Smith went 18-14-7 with a 2.87 GAA in the regular season and was awarded the William Jennings Trophy.  In the 1983 playoffs, he went 13-3 with a 2.68 GAA and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.  The 1983 Stanley Cup completed a run of 4 straight Cups for Smith and the Islanders.  Billy Smith was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1993.
